Withnail and I and me

Withnail and I’ certainly makes it into my top ten films of all time list so I was excited to hear that the two stars – Richard E Grant and Paul McGann, were reuniting for the first time in over 20 years to make another film. As a fan, I was particularly pleased when the film makers approached me to design the Press Pack for it’s promotion at the London Film Festival as well as other international events.

I wanted to produce something to fit the off-centre style of the film and create a pack that would stand out from the competition. There’s a taster of the pack below and the finished product can be viewed here.

Honestly officer I’m fine, I’ve only had a few ales!

Having created the Press Pack for the launch of ‘Always Crashing in the Same Car’, (the first film to reunite Richard E Grant and Paul McGann since ‘Withnail and I’) I was asked to create the cover for a double DVD of the film coupled with another BAFTA award winning short by the same director. I wanted the imagery for each film to work separately but to ensure it formed a cohesive whole. The result is below.

I’ve had some very positive feedback from the director and the producer:-

Bright Spark carried out 2 pieces of design work around the same product. One design was a double sided DVD cover for 2 short films and the other was a press kit for a short film starring Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann of “Withnail & I”. Both designs were immaculate and arrived as fully finished pieces which exceeded my expectations by some distance. The press kit has been particularly successful at promotional events and both designs have exactly the kind of skewed elegance I was after.

This project was a bit of a first for me. Mind – the mental health charity, asked me to produce an animated advert to go on cash machines (ATM’s if you’re of the American persuasion). This was to promote their Overseas Challenge Events – a selection of adventures to give you that Indiana Jones buzz plus raise much needed sponsorship cash.

The result can be seen all across London from August.
